I agree with this and think the bigger worry is that the version of AI we will get will be one that is very risk adverse to anything that it doesn't have any data on. And while it won't be deadly to humans, it will be the ultimate HR where it heavily discourages pushes to new frontiers
I love the phrase ‘the ultimate HR’. I don’t know, but I suspect these things remain clueless in the “how many r’s in strawberry sense.” Effectively, i don’t think they’ll be good at acting out long term plans, and so they won’t be exerting political pressure on human beings, they’ll just be vectors for existing political pressure, and sources of leverage. But enough people will be more empowered and more agentic due to ai that I think, on net, the world will become more free because control structures will be a lot weaker now that it’s easier to call BS on them.
